identify suitable recommenders, what to include and exclude, how to be involved
in the process, and view sample letters.
In this workshop you will learn Quetzal Mama’ six (6) critical steps for
an impressive Letter of Recommendation.
Bonus: you will receive a sample
script to use when approaching your referring teachers and guidance counselor.

“The Supplemental Essays” (Common Application) – Most colleges that utilize the Common Application also require supplemental essays for admission consideration. This additional component is often a surprise to students! Unfortunately, students rush through this portion without carefully considering the significance. Although the questions vary significantly, most colleges are seeking the answer to this question: “Why do you want to attend our college?” This workshop helps students avoid three (3) common mistakes in responding to supplemental prompts. During this workshop, students will walk away with a “cheat sheet” to help them craft the right answers to the prompts.

“Which College, How
Many, and When Do I Apply?” –
Savvy Latino students have their college applications mapped out in advance.
They know how to narrow their “short list,” which school to apply “early” and
how to obtain fee waivers so they can finance application fees to multiple
campuses. Other students are not as
knowledgeable and, unfortunately, do not optimize their chances of admission.
This workshop focuses on five (5) key strategies to navigate the college
application process. Students will
learn the formulaic Reasonable Chance of Admission (RCA), how the Major or
Discipline impacts admission, how to maximize Fee Waivers, why Geographic
Diversity matters. This workshop builds
upon “The Pathway to College” by further review of admission criteria and
profiles. At the conclusion, students
will receive a template to help them implement a fund-raising campaign to fund
college applications.

“The Personal
Statement (UC Campus)”––
Learn how to write an exceptional
statement that will increase your chances of admission. This workshop focuses
on the proven Quetzal Mama formula that works for nearly all college essays.
Learn how to avoid 10 common mistakes, the profile of an admissions reader, why
politics matter, and how to develop a Reader Panel. We also cover the “Ganas
Principle” and why Latino students should utilize and develop this theme in
their essay. Bonus: determine whether you should submit the additional essay
concerning special circumstances.
