Quetzal Mama’s got kids in college.  That means each year my kids pack up their “laundry list” of essential items to take to the dorm.  I also work with thousands of students each year, and they tell me about their transition experience to the dorm.

As we are in the final week before many campuses begin, I’m sharing a quick checklist to make life easier for this hectic, crazy time.  Of course, there are many other items you can take, but my students tell me these are the must haves:

Shower caddy
Laundry bag
Antibacterial hand soaps
Shampoo, conditioner, and toiletries
First Aid Kit
Basic eating utensils (bowl, plate, silverware)
Plastic hangers
Shower sandals
Shaving razors
Fabric softener

Alarm clock & reading lamp
Extension cord and power strip w/surge protector
Extra Smartphone chargers
Multivitamins & Airborne
Contact lens stuff
Economy packs of toothpaste!
Air freshener
24-Pack of Bottled Water
Laundry detergent
Whistle

Quetzal Mama Tip!
Before you leave, visit the post office or local FedEx or UPS Store
and get your parents a stash of various sized shipping boxes.

Conveniently, leave them in the garage so your parents can send you care packages.
